Normal Sights

Since getting calmed down and unpacked from our travels,

We've been looking back on some of the pictures we or friends of ours have taken of where we live.

What used to seem different, strange, or breath-taking...

Is just our "new normal" after living here for 3 1/2 years.

The Temples,

Everywhere and of every faith...

The Tea,

Whether on the beautiful green bush or in our cups, it is a way of life...

The Art,

Whether intentionally designed to tell a story...

Or just a scene of ten unique things about South Asia all in one lens shot

(The gods on the dashboards, the chickens on the bike, the broken down rickshaw beside the track of the Darjeeling Toy Train, etc., etc., etc.).

 These are our sights.

These are our 1.3 billion people.

Trying to figure out how to live here,

While praying for all the needs here,

Is our joy, and our burden.

A Country Celebrates With You

Reed was born on the day India's new historically elected government was sworn in,

And the tangential celebration of this government and
Reed's life continued yesterday
As President Obama came to celebrate Reed's 8-Month Birthday
(as well as participate in India's Republic Day celebrations).

As in years past (2012 & 2013)

We joined almost every other Indian we know,

Donning our green, orange, and white,

Cooking some picnic-type food,

And finding a nice patch of grass to relax upon...

Although Reed's contentment in "his day" didn't last until the group photo.

A Surprise Christmas Appearance

Kristie has thrown a few surprise parties for James.

James is not big surprises, though.

And especially with BIG trips, we feel that planning maximizes FUN.

So our two-month-planned, three-day-long surprise trip to see our family at Christmas and New Years was certainly a change for us.

But we snuck our way home,

In time for making cookies for Santa,

Opening presents with family

 (as we fought jet lag),

Making a gingerbread birthday cookie for Jesus,

And just enjoying a little climate controlled, American relaxation.
