... according to South Asians.
We are quite sure, having lived through 33 weeks of a pregnancy here in South Asia, that the South Asian answer to the question of an expecting mother's "desires" is quite different than an American woman's answer.
Most South Asians cringe at the thought of foot massages, rather than imagine them as relaxing.
And many American women just want to continue working as normal throughout their pregnancy, while South Asians tend to put every mother on limited bed rest during the pregnancy.
But some desires are transcultural, as Kristie found out at a celebration given to her by our national friends here. The party is called a "Shaad," which means "desires." Basically, an expecting mother, in her 7th Month, gets together with a bunch of ladies, and they have a party centered on...
Since nobody in the country is allowed to know the gender of the coming child, a game is played to determine if the baby will be a boy or girl. After playing, Kristie's baby was determined to be...
Of course we have no way to know how accurate this game's results are, historically, but Jesus (in the picture below), doesn't seem so sure. We will all just have to wait and see!
We are extremely thankful, though, that we have close South Asian friends who want to celebrate our baby's arrival with us.
