Snow in Hattiesburg?

(We won't be so short-sited to let the criticism of Global Warming abound in this post, but...)

What is with this Winter? I know all those north of Hattiesburg have had a lot more snow that we have, but yesterday the THIRD snow of the winter began, and it hasn't stopped yet.

Rebekah was extremely anxious to get outside after seeing the snow.

The Zoo in Winter

On a sunny Saturday in January, we decided to take Rebekah out to her favorite place--the zoo. The zoo was teeming with children, as every other parent apparently had the same idea after weeks of freezing temperatures here in 'sub-tropical' Southern Mississippi.

Rebekah is now at an age where she can find the animals and even make some of the noises they make.

Here are two of the ostrich Rebekah won the right to name last fall. This was the male, Bwana, and one of the females is hiding behind James.

Rebekah also rode the carousel for the first time. The zoo is looking at getting a carousel that isn't as old in the coming months, but even the old, rickety contraption was good enough for Rebekah.

Rebekah and the Bear (2/2/10)

"Who... Who... Who... Who... Who...

Who Dat say they gonna' beat them Saints!!!"

11 MONTHS?!?!

Rebekah is looking forward to her first Super Bowl this weekend. Hopefully she'll be the Saints' good luck charm.

This is unbelievable. We're planning a first birthday already... Can we slow this down? As of a couple weeks ago, Rebekah was still in the 17 lb. range. She is in the 7th percentile, but is healthy. A runny nose & ear infection here and there, but nothing to slow her down.

Rebekah isn't walking unaided yet, but she walks behind her strollers and with one hand on furniture pretty quickly. Pulling up is no problem, and climbing is one of her favorite hobbies.

We have a first word, but we can't decide which was actually first. "Mama," "Dada," and a couple other disyllabic words are in her repertoire, but she's been "babbling" for months now, so deciding when babbling became intentional identification was difficult to discern.

Although it took a while for her to get started teething, Rebekah now proudly displays 6 teeth--the original two on the bottom, and four on the top. They haven't seemed to bother her, though, and she proudly shows them off all the time.
