Rebekah and the Bear (7/30/09)

Time To Baby-Proof

A Chronology of Rebekah Rolling Over

Keeping track of Rebekah has become quite a chore, as she has become accustomed to pushing herself all over the floor with her feet as well as rolling wherever she wishes to go. Combined with her love of grabbing, this rolling has forced us to consider what most parents probably did long before their babies were born--baby-proofing the house.

As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, Rebekah's favorite toys these days seem to be her toes. She'll often forgo all the colorful, noise-making toys given by various relatives for the ten little nubs at the ends of her feet. As is inevitable, perhaps, with baby toys, her toes eventually found... her mouth.

We didn't really need to try to catch her in various toe-sucking positions, because she is unashamed in her disgusting habit.

Also, Rebekah started taking liquid baby vitamins recently. You can see how much she enjoyed that experience~

Rebekah and the Bear (7/22/09)

Rebekah is all about hugs these days--when she's tired or just feeling lovey she'll bury her head in your shoulder. She's also getting pretty good at grabbing things with either hand, so we set her on the bear and let her grab away.

Two thoughts:
*note the slobber all over her--she's got ridiculously active salivary glands!
*she loves standing up, although she really needs to work on her balance before she'll be doing it on her own.

Rebekah and the Bear (7/15/09)

Do I Look Like a Boy to You?

Since Rebekah probably spends more time in the car seat than most other places (besides her bed or being held), we wanted to give a shout out to Graco for their infant car seat! We've found that buying a base for each car was the way to go, although we're not sure what we'll do when she outgrows the infant seat.

As we've told you before, nary a day goes by Rebekah doesn't go for a little ride somewhere. She didn't like the seat when first introduced, but she doesn't mind it now that she can entertain herself. Perhaps if we had gotten a pink seat, Rebekah wouldn't be mistaken for a boy quite so much. At the Farmer's Market in Hattiesburg, wearing the clothes shown in this picture, 90% of the people told us what a cute little boy we had. We don't correct them 99% of the time, however, but just answer "Yes it is...".

Summer Fun #5: Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Kristie's company, Youth Villages, was recognized at the Mississippi Braves game last week, so we traveled up to Jackson from Hattiesburg to watch the Boys of Summer. Unfortunately, the game wasn't too exciting, but Rebekah got to experience $1 jumbo hot dogs, giant eyeballs racing around the field, big red mascots of some unidentifiable species, and of course got to charm all the YV employees at the game.

Rebekah and the Bear (7/8/09)

11 LBS, 8.5 OZ (10-25th Percentile)

24.5 INCHES (50th Percentile)

16.25 INCHES (50TH Percentile)

(okay, this is the unofficial opinion of the parents, but we feel we are very unbiased)

(Obviously) Ridiculously High

(She's Singing to Us!)

Although the placement of the Boppy is probably not recommended by the manufacturers, we often carry Rebekah around and set her on the bed, on the couch, by the kitchen, etc., so we can have a moment of productiveness while she plays. Have I mentioned how excited we are that she can entertain herself for up to 45 minutes at times?!?

Summer Fun #4: Crabfest and 4th of July

To celebrate the Fourth of July, Rebekah went to visit her grandparents on the MS Gulf Coast. She greatly enjoyed the holiday weekend, although she didn't get to experience the joy of fireworks until making it back to Hattiesburg Saturday night.

While on the Coast, however, Rebekah did get to experience some of the joys available in southern Mississippi. After being entertained by the ferris wheel, she tasted a plateful of the Gulf's finest cuisine.

Summer Fun #3: Bowling

About 2 dozen of the "young" adults from our church went to Champion Bowling in Hattiesburg just to hang out and see if Wii Bowling skills in any way translated in actual bowling skills. Apparently Wii Bowling only makes you overconfident, because James lost both games to Kristie--the first one by 1 pin, the second wasn't even close (although we both broke 100 each game!). Rebekah enjoyed herself, but was a little worn out by the end of the night. She didn't bowl, which was lucky for James--she probably would have beaten him as well!

Summer Fun #2: The Pool

We probably are abusing our baby by exposing her to chlorine so early, but Rebekah is never as happy as when she's in the swimming pool! We usually wait until dusk so the sun isn't in her eyes, and the fact that the water is probably 85 degrees helps, but she'll wade around until her fingers and toes look like tiny raisins.

(such sass!)

Toes and Tongues

Rebekah is four months old!

Rebekah has been making noises since she was a few weeks old--she's vocal like Kristie--and she's known that her fingers and toes exist for over a month now. Recently, however, she has begun sticking her tongue out during her talking fits.

As you can see in the pic below, her toes have become her favorite toy, with grabbing anything in her reach becoming her favorite hobby.

Rebekah and the Bear (7/1/2009)

James knew he was in trouble when, before Rebekah was born, her closet was already full of clothes. Kristie has dressed her appropriately for every holiday since birth. Below are pictures from St Patrick's Day as well as from this week with the bear. Next week is our weight check-up and 4-month shots, so we'll see how much she's officially grown.
