Caged Animal

As seen in the Christmas Tree post below, we succumbed to the easy method of child-proofing the house, at least temporarily, and bought a baby gate.

Rebekah was confused and a little excited when she first experienced this "playpin"/jail.

Soon (very, very soon) the novelty wore off, however, and she began looking for a way out.

She couldn't climb it, so she tried to eat her way out.

Rebekah always antagonizes Kosi's confinement in her cage...

... so Kosi even mocked Rebekah's situation.

Are we bad parents because we cage our daughter instead of baby-proofing?

Santa Claus is Coming?

Rebekah was very excited to see this jolly giver-of-gifts she'd heard so much about. She was up early and ready to go get her picture taken with the fat man. But he hadn't shown up, so she just played for a while in his chair.

She explored the ornaments on his tree...

and continued waiting...

... giving him the accusatory glare when he finally showed up smiling.

Oh, Christmas Tree

Rebekah was a little unsure of what this new piece of furniture was we'd moved into the room.

She hung onto the gate and swayed back and forth cooing at the tree.

Her curiosity would not be quenched.

But she was amazed at the final outcome. She goes crazy over Christmas lights, and since pointing is her "new thing," she always points at any lights she sees.

When Rebekah first learned to crawl, things were a little shaky, but she was determined.

October 2009

Now, when she's determined to get somewhere, you'd better be on your toes ready to catch her.

Rebekah and the Bear (12/4/2009)

9 Months!!!

Okay, so Rebekah isn't off the TOP of the growth charts, but she is almost off the bottom. Last week Rebekah went to her 9-month check-up. Her pediatrician told us to expect her to drop off the weight chart in the next couple months when she gets more active (Um, more active?! Is that possible?)

The Results

Weight: 15 lbs 10.5 oz (5th percentile)
Length: 27 inches (25th percentile)
Head Size (don't laugh): 17 3/4 inches (75th percentile)

Thanksgiving 2009

Rebekah was a bit curious why her entire family stayed and played with her all day long this particular Thursday. Everyone lounged around, a parade with big balloons played on Uncle Damon's enormous flat screen, and her mother, granny, and Aunt Jessica plotted their 12-hour shopping day for Friday.

Then the good smells started coming from the kitchen! And this cold, hard pillow-shaped piece of meat appeared on the floor.

Later, the good-smelling food made Rebekah's mouth water...

But all she got were mashed potatoes on people's fingers and pureed sweet potatoes and corn.

Rebekah is pretty easy to entertain, and most of the time entertains herself. When she does see some new or different toy, though, she knows how to have a good time! On a recent trip we visited Rebekah's friend Jackson.

Rebekah went crazy playing with all his toys, but especially his home-made ball pit.

On our Thanksgiving trip to Jacksonville, however, even with all these toys available...

... the springy doorstop was good for lots of entertainment.

Leaving, on a Jet Plane

Last week Rebekah took her first of what will probably be dozens of plane rides in her life. She had been sick over the past couple weeks with her first ear infection, and we were very concerned, having heard many screaming babies during our journeys over the years. Although we are patient with babies and their parents, we didn't want to be the center of attention, in a bad way.

She got to know the pilots early, waving to them (they waved back) as they prepared for the flight.

Before the flight, she became the center of attention, in a good way, by charming the fellow passengers and the flight attendant.

What were we worried about? During the flight, she played and enjoyed the complimentary airline pretzel sticks.

And by the end of the flight, she followed her parents' examples of being able to sleep anywhere.

Boomer Sooner

Not to be outdone by the Black and Gold of Southern Miss ("to the Top!"), Rebekah obtained a little Crimson and Cream swag, hoping the some of the good karma associated with OU's 7 National Championships would rub off on her. As if her good looks weren't enough to get her by in life...

And of course mom and dad had to wear matching paraphernalia.

Go Southern Miss!

Rebekah doesn't know much about football yet, but she knew that for some reason mom would get excited on some Saturdays and dress her up in all kinds of Black and Gold clothing, combined with Black and Gold accessories.

Maybe it was all the excitement, but Rebekah refused to take naps on those Saturdays.

Mom also put all kinds of different stickers on her face.

By 4 or 5 PM, Rebekah was exhausted, so her grandparents always came to pick her up. But she had fun with her mom & dad, and all her fellow young Southern Miss fans.

Rebekah and the Bear (11/10/09)

8 Months and Growing

So Rebekah just started sitting up by herself at the beginning of September, and now we're at the beginning of November and she is pretty much a totally different child.

She started to pull up on October 10th, making it much more dangerous to leave her on the floor beside a couch, clothes basket, or coffee table. But at least she can't get around on her own yet, right?

Sorry, but the next week, on the 15th, she officially became a crawler. This occurrence has totally revolutionized parenting, and Rebekah's parents are still trying to figure out how to contain this wild child, especially as she becomes increasingly adept at low-level self-propelling.

(End of) Summer Fun '09!!! (Part 2)

Of course at the beach we had to take the obligatory scenic pics one evening. Rebekah was just as happy to be at the beach as she is everywhere else!

(practicing her karate)

The condos weren't too crowded AFTER Labor Day when we visited, so the birds were some of our only company (which was fine with us).

(End of) Summer Fun '09

After Labor Day Weekend, we took our first family trip to the beach on the Florida-Alabama Gulf Coast. The condo was great, the sand was warm, and the surf was very attractive to our little water-baby.

PLAYED IN THE SAND (and ate quite a bit of it)
